Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of the Modern Monarch

elizabeth-iiI ran through the first season of The Crown on Netflix at a surprising pace. And I felt like it left me with a cliff hanger, as any quality show would now. But this is based on real life. I went in search of a biography and in looking through search results this book jumped out at me. It says right on Amazon this book is for anyone who loved The Crown. Perfect.

And then I worried, would this be a scratch the surface book, and would it tell a story that no one has really been able to tell. The Queen, and for the most part, the Royal family on the whole, don’t do interviews. How do we know anything?

After a slow start, I quickly started to fly through it. A warning – it is long, but she’s also the longest reigning monarch. The book is broken out clearly with the phases on her personal life and reign, and begins with her childhood.

I studied British history extensively in college, but modern British history was not included. History, politics, and the personal side from long time friends and relatives.

If you watched The Crown, read this book.
