What I’m reading next…

A little peak at my TBR list. These three books are the next I’m reading. Each is different from what I’ve been reading, and from what I’d normally pick up, which is part of my interest.

Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights by Salmon Rushdie

I got the book for Christmas. I’ve actually started it, but book club reads have prevented me from getting too far. But it hasn’t left my nightstand because I was enjoying it so much. It is definitely unusual. A touch of fantasy, a little sci-fi, traditional fiction with incredible characters slowly weaving together through their stories and experiences. Ready to jump back into it!

Redeployment by Phil Klay

A look at the front lines of Iraq and Afghanistan, and what happened when soldiers returned home. This was was and is unlike any other our country has fought. It was also treated differently than any other from those at home, with no attachment to the military. Reading the other side – from those who lived it, so we wouldn’t have to, seems necessary.

My Age of Anxiety: Fear, Hope, Dread, and the Search for Peace of Mind by Scott Stossel

Mental health is something we’re just starting to discuss in public. For better or worse (and it’s been for worse) as a country and society we have chosen to make people feel shameful about being diagnosed with any mental illness. In this book Stossel writes about his battle with anxiety, but also looks at the history of dealing with mental illness, and the ways anxiety has been treated over time, and what that has meant for those living with it.

Have you read any of these? Let me know what you thought.
